brass pin

Pins made from brass wire, head made by two windings of wire around the shank. This wire head is made separately, then pressed onto the shank.

Pins with wire-wrap heads are the typical form for the late Middle Ages. The earliest finds of pins of this kind are from Southampton, dated to the 13th/14th century. The form continues into the 19th century. Typically, the heads are made from two rounds of wire that is slightly thinner than the wire used for the shank.

The pins are between 4 and 5 cm in length (other lengths are available upon request). Both versions have a shank diameter of about 1 mm.
