Season Start is drawing near!

The start of the season for market events et cetera is drawing near. There's still a bunch of things to take care of and organise, there's some additional stuff to do that came in during the last weeks, but at the moment it feels as if it will all come together just in time - maybe not perfectly, but well enough.

I have finished a hood yesterday, there's a dress all cut and lying ready for stitching together, and even the hairnet is progressing nicely. There is a piece of nicely purple silk lying in the living room, ready to be cut and transformed in something flashy and showoff. The threads for another hairnet project have arrived, and I'll have to find out whether I can carry out my vision/plan for this. In addition to all that, I have finally designed a 3/1 twill tablet weave pattern to weave a belt and already prepared the tablets for the weaving - I use playing cards, cut into squares, because they are conveniently small and slim. It's been ages since I last did twill on tablets, and I'm really looking forward to it. I'd love to do another play-band some time, but it doesn't look as if that will occur during the next months. So it's all pretty busy here, but nice-busy, and I'm in a really good mood today.

You will. I'd guess about 8 to 10 hours more work on the net I'm currently working on, then it should be finished and ready for going on the blog - and I should be able to start tests for the next one.

The one time I did a twill with tablet weaving I used some nice small horn tablets I'd been given by a friend (I think she got them from one of the on-line re-enactor's merchants). I found this to be very useful, because I scratched little arrows onto the outside edge of the outside card showing which direction the pack needed to turn next (and I always turned the outside ones the same direction). This meant that if I got distracted while weaving I could always look at the edge of that tablet to see which way I needed to turn the cards next.

I don't mark up my tablets for weaving directions; if I mark anything at all, it's a coloured edge for the tablets that show the middle of the pack or some similar important divide, like the edge of a pattern in the band.
I learned how to tablet weave (and how to twill) from Karina Grömer, and she taught me her way of twilling, no counting needed. So getting distracted while doing a simple twill is no problem for me. When I'm in the middle of a pattern in the twill, however... then I need a moment to get back on track.
