If it makes your fingers itch - go give it a try at some point. Knitting can be a huge lot of fun, and there's plenty of weird things you can do with that technique, too : )
And yes, silk tends to be on the pricey side. I wouldn't have bought the silk yarn for the original price, but it was at a deep discount, and so I couldn't resist. I'm afraid this project has changed my pain threshold for future silk buying sprees, though!

I only realised that it had no shaping at all after a while, when I was approaching the top of the back, and then I looked at the pictures in the pattern pdf again and realised that yes, it was very, very boxy. Good thing there's no knitting police that makes you follow a given pattern just as it is ; )
Lovely! I had to laugh when I got to the part about how you lengthened it compared to the pattern though, since the first thing I thought when I saw it was "pretty, but a bit short in both the sleeves and body". If this is the lengthened version, I wouldn't have wanted to have seen the original.
