Busted flat...

... in Baton Rouge, heading for the trains...

It's finished, finally - I dealt with all the ends on Friday evening and got to wear it for the first time on Saturday. It's lovely, it's silky, and it is surprisingly warm yet light and not sweat-inducing... and it still gives me that earworm.

I'm talking, of course, about the silk Baton Rouge, and here it is:

I'm very, very happy with how it turned out. I'm also freshly in love with silk as a material, and there are wild plans for future knits quietly coming into existence in my head.

I made a few modifications (of course!) to the pattern - it's a bit longer overall than the original pattern calls for. The gauge is different too, so I basically knit size S, the smallest size given in the pattern, to end up with XS (about once the difference between S and M smaller than S). There's no shoulder shaping in the original, so I added the one from Vignette, and I knit a bit more straight up in the bottom front than the original demands, starting the V a bit later so it could actually close more in front.

I might add invisible press buttons to the front edge later on, but for now I'm happy with just the brooch to close it. Which was a wedding gift, and now it finally has a really appropriate place to sit and keep things together!

Katrin, that's really gorgeous! And beautifully done as well. I have never knitted but that almost makes we want to run out and buy some needles. Love to use silk threads in my hand embroidery and silk yarn in my weaving. Quite dear, though.

Thank you!
If it makes your fingers itch - go give it a try at some point. Knitting can be a huge lot of fun, and there's plenty of weird things you can do with that technique, too : )
And yes, silk tends to be on the pricey side. I wouldn't have bought the silk yarn for the original price, but it was at a deep discount, and so I couldn't resist. I'm afraid this project has changed my pain threshold for future silk buying sprees, though!

Gorgeous and radiant! And Baton Rouge looks great too. Very smart move to change the top of the sleeves and the shouldershaping. This is a far to tight fit for sagging shoulders.

Thank you!
I only realised that it had no shaping at all after a while, when I was approaching the top of the back, and then I looked at the pictures in the pattern pdf again and realised that yes, it was very, very boxy. Good thing there's no knitting police that makes you follow a given pattern just as it is ; )

Lovely! I had to laugh when I got to the part about how you lengthened it compared to the pattern though, since the first thing I thought when I saw it was "pretty, but a bit short in both the sleeves and body". If this is the lengthened version, I wouldn't have wanted to have seen the original.
