French shepherds in a particular region used to walk on stilts - and apparently, if you learn how to do it at an early age, you can be really good with stilt-walking.

And as my pavlovian reaction to mention of the Bayeux Tapestry: compulsory plug for Reading Museum (free entry, central Reading, UK) with their full scale Victorian replica of the Bayeux Tapestry, only difference to the original is a set of underpants:
