Too little yarn error. Again.

I've told you about my spinning project, and my glorious decision to ply the yarn spun from the dyed top with nice, grey Gotland yarn, to get more length. Well, it is finished now, and it looks really nice. It also knits nicely, and results in a pleasing fabric. Only problem?

It's not much. I have 278 g of yarn, but this weight only runs to a scant 458 m according to my length-measuring thingie. (Damn you, high twist resulting in high-density yarn!) Which is definitely not enough for something sweater-like... so now I have the usual not-enough-yarn problem again.

Sigh.

Maybe if I spin up some more plain Gotland, ply that, and use the two threads alternatingly?

I did expect something like that. To ply 150 grams of the blue into a sweater portion of yarn without loosing its quality is something I couldn't do. Can't you use this for an accent colour and make the main vest out of the grey Gotland? I'm afraid that if you blend it even more by knitting it every other row, it will fade into the background.

Ah, yes, it was wildly optimistic. But you were sweet enough not to burst my bubble : )
It might fade too much, yes - I shall give it a try, and see. I will have to spin up enough of the Gotland anyways, so I can do a tiny bit of test-knitting with it. If it fades too much, I will have to reconsider, and yes, accent colour would be a good option then...

Sorry to hear that you have too little of this glorious yarn! Harma's suggestion sounds like the best way to make the most of what you do have, to me.
